150cm Gourai Hand — The Challenge of Uniting Design and Functionality 【Development Update】

In our previous report, we introduced the challenges of exterior finishing. This time, we turn the spotlight to the “Hand of the 150cm Cutieroid FA Girl Gourai.”

At HatsuMuv, we have previously developed the human-sized robotic hand “HatsuHand” (approx. 19cm), capable of replicating human hand movements. For the Gourai robot hand, we are building on that technology while tackling the challenge of reproducing a character-accurate appearance at a smaller scale (approx. 14cm).

To achieve this, we have been working to maintain visual beauty with smooth surface finishing, while reinforcing fragile areas typical of 3D printing to enhance durability. Furthermore, by optimizing motor size and placement, we are bringing natural finger movements to life — all while carefully preserving the design aesthetics.

Our development process places special emphasis on retaining the “essence of Gourai.” Through repeated prototyping and fine-tuning, we are addressing one of our greatest challenges: balancing functionality and visual authenticity.

Extensive drive testing has been carried out to confirm the stability of movement. Although large-scale production introduces unique issues such as weight balance and durability, we continue to make steady improvements step by step.

In this way, development is progressing toward delivering a powerful, large-scale Gourai hand with reliable motion — a unique feature only possible at the 150cm scale.

The unveiling of the 150cm Cutieroid FA Girl Gourai at the Kotobukiya booth during the All Japan Model & Hobby Show 2025 (October 18–19, Tokyo Big Sight) is now just around the corner.
