150cm Cutieroid FA Girl Gourai – The Challenge of Polishing & Processing! [Progress Report]

The development of the 150cm Cutieroid FA Girl Gourai is steadily progressing from design to parts production.

In this report, we focus on the polishing and processing phase, a step that greatly influences the overall finish, and share a glimpse into the team’s work on site.

When building a robot on such a large scale (150cm), the surface quality has a huge impact on the final result. Our team is constantly testing different methods through trial and error. We’ve included photos from the workshop that capture the scale, the fine adjustments made to achieve a clean finish, and the creative use of tools and techniques.

Every surface is carefully refined by hand to enhance the quality of each part. At the same time, during the prototyping phase we repeatedly check the fitting accuracy of the parts, assembling them as we go, and making adjustments to improve precision.

Through repeated trial and error, we are steadily moving closer to completion

Beyond what is required in traditional figure production, we are also facing unique challenges: balancing exterior finishing and texture with the robot’s mobility and internal structure. Through continuous prototyping, we are searching for the optimal methods to achieve both “a beautiful appearance” and “robot functionality.”

Of course, the process isn’t without its setbacks—failures and rework are part of the journey. For example, during surface preparation we apply multiple coats of surfacer, carefully checking the texture and precision, and improving step by step. These efforts may not be immediately visible from the outside, but they demand a great deal of time and labor.
